Oliko se vain ihanaa unta, että minä olisin ollut sinun sydämesi ystävä? -- Minä muistan sen kuin vaienneen laulun, kun soittimen kielet vielä värähtelevät. Minä muistan villiruusun, jonka sinä annoit, muistan niin ujon ja hellän katseen; minä muistan eronkyynelen, joka kimalsi, -- oliko kaikki, oliko kaikki vain unta? Yhtä lyhyttä unta kuin vuokon elämä vehreällä keväisellä niityllä, jonka kukoistus nopeasti lakastuu pois antaakseen tilaa uusien kukkien paljoudelle.
