by Friedrich Güll (1812 - 1879)

Waffenschmied
Language: German (Deutsch)
Die Esse sprüht,
Das Eisen glüht,
Im Takt die Hämmer fallen.
Der Meister Schmied,
Er läßt sein Lied
Mit den Gesell'n erschallen:

"Durch Feuers Glut,
Durch Wassers Flut
Muß Schwert und Mann auf Erden:
Ein' gute Wehr,
Und Ruhm und Ehr
Mag hie nit anders werden."

Der Hammer springt,
Der Ambos klingt,
Die Balge lustig blasen.
So singt sein Lied
Der Waffenschmied:
Es hallt hinab die Straßen.

Confirmed with Friedrich Güll, Kinderheimath in Liedern, zweite Gabe, Stuttgart: C. G. Liesching, 1859, pages 135 - 136. Appears in Scherz und Ernst für Jung und Alt.
