Läßt so, o Sünder, nicht genesen Dich dieser Reuetränen Fall? Wie glüh'nd die Wunden der Brust gewesen, Ein Himmelstropfen, er heilt sie all'! Tenor-Solo mit Chor Und sieh, demütig betend kniet Der Mann dort an des Kindes Seite, Indes ein Sonnenstrahl auf beide, Den Sünder und den Reinen glüht. Und Hymnen durch den Himmel schweben, Denn einer Seele ward vergeben! Gesunken war der gold'ne Ball, Noch lagen sie auf ihren Knien, Da fiel ein rein'rer, schön'rer Strahl, Als je aus Sonn'und Sternen schien, Auf jene Träne. La Peri Ora sulla terra d'Egitto, riarsa per la calura di giugno, cade,giù dalla luna, una goccia la cui forza risanante è tale, che all'istante il demone della peste si dilegua, e la salute torna vivificare il cielo e la terra. E così, o peccatore, non puoi anche tu essere guarito dalle lacrime di sincero rimorso che hai versato? Per quanto brucino le ferite dell'anima una goccia divina le potrà sanare tutte! Tenore solo con coro Ed ecco, in umile preghiera si inginocchia quell'uomo là accanto al bambino mentre un raggio di sole su entrambi, l'impuro ed il puro, si accende. E inni di gioia si libravano in cielo, perché a un'anima era stato concesso il perdono! Era ormai tramontato l'astro dorato, ed entrambi erano ancora in ginocchio, quando un raggio, il più puro e il più bello fra quanti mai visti da sole o da stelle, cadde su quelle lacrime. Un occhio mortale scambierebbe quel raggio per una meteora o un'aurora boreale ma la Peri lo sa bene: la luce emana dal sorriso di un angelo, che con esso saluta benigno le lacrime che a lei presto apriranno le porte del cielo.
