Spinn', spinne, liebes Töchterlein! 
Ich kaufe dir ein Kleid. 
Von Seide, Mutter, laßt es sein, 
Die Kante bunt und breit! 
Ich will auch gleich beginnen,
Seht nur wie flink ich dreh. 
Doch nein, ich kann nicht spinnen, 
Die Finger thun mir weh! 

Spinn', liebe Tochter, spinne fein! 
Ein Hemde kauf' ich dir. 
Das Hemde, Mutter, wird mich freun, 
Mit Spitzen wünsch ich's mir. 
Doch wär's vom feinsten Linnen 
Und weißer als der Schnee, 
Kann, Mutterchen, nicht spinnen, 
Die Finger thun mir weh!  

Spinn, Tochter!  du bekömmst ein Paar 
Ganz nagelneue Schuh. 
O kauft, mit Zwickeln fein und klar, 
Auch Strümpfe mir dazu. 
Mich neiden Nachbarinnen, 
Wenn ich zur Tanze geh. 
Doch spinnen?  nur nicht spinnen 
Die Finger thun mir weh!  

Und spinn' das Fädchen glatt und rund, 
Ich kauf' dir einen Hut.  
Ja, Mutterchen, doch nicht zu bunt: 
Ein gelber steht mir gut; 
Ich wär', ihn zu gewinnen, 
Wohl flinker als ein Reh. 
Doch kann ich heut nicht spinnen,
Die Finger thun mir weh!  

Spinn', liebe Tochter, spinne flink, 
Ein Kettlein kauf' ich dir. 
Das Kettlein und der goldne Ring  
Sind schöner Bräute Zier. 
Wie schmeichelt ihr den Sinnen 
Vom Kopf bis auf die Zeh! 
Erlaßt mir nur das Spinnen, 
Die Finger thun mir weh! 

Spinn', Töchterchen, spinn' flink und fein, 
Ich kauf' dir einen Mann. 
Ein Mann, ey!  liebes Mütterlein, 
Der stände mir wohl an. 
Er soll mich zärtlich minnen, 
Wenn ich mein Rädchen dreh', 
Und seht!  ich kann wohl spinnen, 
Thut mir kein Finger weh!

Klinge, kleines Frühlingslied,
Kling' hinaus in's Weite.

[Kling']2 hinaus bis an das Haus,
Wo die [Blumen]3 sprießen.
Wenn du eine Rose schaust,
Sag' ich lass' sie grüßen.
