2. En suck i vårens palats

Skönheten har blivit min olycka, 
jag ser mig så suckande i spegeln. 
Hur skall jag smycka mig för 
att behaga en granntyckt Kejsare. 
Fåglarna flockas kvittrande i den ljumma vinden, 
blomskuggor vaja i det höga solljuset. 
År efter år gå sydlandets unga flickor 
och plocka hibiskusblommor drömmande om kärlek.

Där himlen gett förmåga, må den också brukas!
Låt tusen silverslantar rulla, du får dem nog tillbaka!
Slakta en ko, stek ett får och brygg
Av tre hundra kannor en mäktig dryck!
… Skänk i av vinet
Åt den gamle mästaren T´sên
Och den unge lärjungen Tan-chíu!
Låt inte bärgaren vila!
Låt mig sjunga en sång.
Upplåt era öron och lyssna!
Vad är klockor, trummor och dyrbarheter värda?
Låt mig vara drucken beständigt och aldrig nykter.
Renlevnadsmän och vise män från fordom är för alltid glömda,
Och endast de stora dryckeshjältarna ha vunnit ryktbarhet för evigt.
Furst Ch´ên gav en gång vid en fest i Fullkomlighetens palats
Skrattande tiotusen guldmynt för en tunna vin.
Varför säger du, min vän, att dina pengar är slut?
Gå och köp vin och låt oss dricka tillsammans!
Mina kostbara pälsverk
Och min apelkastade hingst –
Låt byta ut dem mot ädelt vin
Och vi skall dränka tiotusen släktleds sorger.
