Drei Handwerksburschenlieder

Song Cycle by Franz Xaver Zintl (1903 - 1987)

1. Handwerksburschenpenne
 (Sung text)

Language: German (Deutsch)
Das Geld ist aus, die Flasche leer,
Und einer nach dem andern
Legt sich zu Boden müde sehr
Und ruht vom langen Wandern.

Der eine träumt noch vom Gendarm,
Dem er mit Not entronnen,
Dem andern ist, er liege warm
Im Felde an der Sonnen.

Der dritte Kunde schaut ins Licht
Als ob er Geister sehe,
Er stützt den Kopf und schlummert nicht
Und hat ein heimlich Wehe.

Das Licht verlischt und alles ruht,
Nur noch die Scheiben funkeln,
Da nimmt er leise Stock und Hut
Und wandert fort im Dunkeln.

2. In der Nachtherberge
 (Sung text)

Language: German (Deutsch)
Du lachst, weil ich gebetet habe;
Es tut mir leid, daß du es sahst
Und daß du nicht geschwiegen hast ...
Ich lernte es als Knabe -

Ich möchte in deinen Augen lesen,
Daß du mich doch verstanden hast -
Bist du denn nie ein Kind gewesen?

3. Der alte Landstreicher
 (Sung text)

Language: German (Deutsch)
Die warme Zeit ist wieder da,
Nun gehen allwärts fern und nah
Die Vagabunden auf den Strich
Und keiner rastet mehr als ich.

O wollte Gott mein Bein wär heil --
Ich ließ dem Armenhaus mein Teil
Und ginge über Flur und Bach
Ins Weite meinen Brüdern nach.

Nun aber sitz ich bis zur Nacht
Im Hoftor einsam auf der Wacht,
Und kommt ein Wandrer ohne Schuh,
Ruf ich ihm traurig Servus zu!
