Handwerksburschenpenne

Das Geld ist aus, die Flasche leer,
Und einer nach dem andern
Legt sich zu Boden müde sehr
Und ruht vom langen Wandern.

Der eine träumt noch vom Gendarm,
Dem er mit Not entronnen,
Dem andern ist, er liege warm
Im Felde an der Sonnen.

Der dritte Kunde schaut ins Licht
Als ob er Geister sehe,
Er stützt den Kopf und schlummert nicht
Und hat ein heimlich Wehe.

Das Licht verlischt und alles ruht,
Nur noch die Scheiben funkeln,
Da nimmt er leise Stock und Hut
Und wandert fort im Dunkeln.

Le roupillon des compagnons

Les sous sont envolés, la bouteille vide,
L'un après l'autre
Ils se couchent sur le sol, très fatigués,
Et se reposent d'un long chemin.

L'un rêve encore du gendarme
Qu'il a évité avec peine,
L'autre qu'il est allongé au chaud
Dans un champ ensoleillé.

Le troisième client regarde la lumière,
Comme s'il voyait un fantôme,
Il baisse la tête, il ne dort pas
Et souffre d' un mal secret.

La lumière s'éteint et tout repose,
Seules les vitres luisent encore,
Alors il prend son bâton et son chapeau,
Et se met en route dans le noir.
