Noch nicht entblüht zur Rose, Lag der Natur im Schoose Ein Röschen zart und fein; Gewiegt von Maienlüften, Schlief es in sanften Düften Der Mutter ein. Die Schmetterlinge schwebten, Die Staudenblätter bebten, Es zitterte das Licht, Es murmelte die Quelle, Es rieselte die Welle -- Sie weckten's nicht. Da rauschet es im Haine Bei hellem Vollmondscheine Durch dunkler Wipfel Dicht; Die Nachtigallen sangen, Und Harfentöne klangen -- Sie weckten's nicht. Da nahten, wie zum Tanze, Die Grazien im Glanze Des vollen Mondes sich; Und jede sprach im Kreise Zur Rosenknospe leise: Ich segne Dich. "Im sanften Mutterschoose Entblüh', und werde Rose!" Klang aller Harmonie -- Und Anmut jeder Tugend, Und Blütenreiz der Jugend Umhüllte sie. "Entblüh', und werde Rose!" So hallt' im Mutterschoose Die Himmelsstimme nach. Das Röschen bebt im Schalle -- Da bückten sie sich alle, Und küssten's wach. Vom Kuss erglühend wachte Das Röschen auf, und lachte, Erröthend, sanft und mild, Die schönste Blum' im Haine -- So ganz wie sie, war keine Der Unschuld Bild. Wie der Natur im Schoose Kaum aufgeblüht zur Rose In Florens Lieblingsbeet, Von Zephyr angefächelt, Von Grazien umlächelt Das Röschen steht -- So der Natur gelungen, Von Grazien umschlungen, Wovon Dir jede glich, So sanft, so mild, so blühend' Sah ich, vor Wonne glühend, O Anna, dich.

Mit Rosen umweben Der Sterblichen Leben Die gütigen Feen; Sie wandeln und walten In tausend Gestalten Bald häßlich, bald schön. Da, wo sie gebieten, Lacht alles, mit Blüten Und Grün emaillirt; Ihr Schloß von Topasen Ist herrlich mit Vasen Von Demant geziert. Von Zeilons Gedüfte Sind ewig die Lüfte Der Gärten durchweht, Die Gänge, statt Sandes, Nach Weise des Landes Mit Perlen besät. Ambrosiatische Sind hier in der Frische Der Grotten versteckt; Dort blasen im Grünen Kristallne Delfinen Tokaier und Sekt. Den Blüten entflimmert. Von Früchten umschimmert, Der Kolibri Schmelz, Und Nachtigallkehlen Vom Leman beseelen Das Badegehölz. Da flattert, im Scheins Des Mondes, der kleine Geflügelte Wicht, Schlau, wie die Annalen Cytherens ihn malen, Mit sanftem Gesicht. Aus dämmerndem Grunde Steigt eine Rotunde Von Jaspis empor, Die Wände wie Spiegel, Von Golde die Riegel Am ehernen Thor. Da sprudelt im Dunkel, Erhellt von Karfunkel, So alt wie die Zeit, Ein Quell, dessen Tugend Die Blume der Jugend Und Schönheit erneut. Seit Salomo nahte Dem luftigen Staate Kein Aeronaut, Dies hat mir, nach Schriften In Mumiengrüften, Ein Sylfe vertraut. Noch kann ich zu wenig Von dem, was der König Der Geister gekonnt; Sonst wäre zur Stunde, Zusamt der Rotunde, Der Quell in Pyrmont.

Ich sehe dich, wenn auf dem fernen Wege Der Staub sich hebt; In tiefer Nacht, wenn auf dem schmalen [Stege]3 Der Wandrer bebt.4 Ich höre dich, wenn dort mit dumpfem Rauschen Die Welle steigt. Im [stillen]5 [Haine geh']6 ich oft [zu]7 lauschen, Wenn alles schweigt. Ich bin bei dir, du seyst auch noch so ferne, Du bist mir nah! Die Sonne sinkt, [bald]8 leuchten mir die Sterne. O wärst du da!
