Die Barke still und dunkel
Fährt hin in Dämmerschein
Und leisem Sterngefunkel
Am Himmel und hinein.

Gewährt hat, bis es Morgen war,
Das Klopfen und das Hammern.

Nun weist es sich bei Tagesschein,
Was drin geschafft die Rangen,
Sie haben mir im Herzensschrein
Dein Bildnis aufgehangen!

Mon sommeil fut interrompu,
Dans mon cœur ça battait et battait,
Martelait et cognait,

Comme si une ribambelle de fripons
Y hantaient les deux chambres,
Ils ont duré jusqu'au matin,
Ces cognements et ces martèlements.

Maintenant à la lueur du jour, je sais
Ce que les polissons y faisaient,
Dans le sanctuaire de mon cœur,
Ils ont suspendu ton image !

« Je suis une suite de pas dans la neige. »
« Je suis un soupir montant vers le ciel ! »
« Je suis un secret murmuré à l'oreille ! »
« je suis un pieux garçon disparu. »
« je suis une exubérante tresse de fleurs -- »
« Et celle que tu choisis, et à qui sourit
