Traurig säuseln hier die Weiden,
Und im Winde bebt das Rohr.

[Strahlst du, Ferne! hell und mild]4,

Et je dois me séparer de ma très chère:
Coule, ô larme, jaillis!
Ici les saules murmurent tristement,
Et dans le vent les roseaux tremblent.

Dans ma peine silencieuse et profonde,
Tu rayonnes, lointaine! claire et douce,
Comme ici, à travers les joncs et les saules
Rayonne le reflet de l'étoile du soir.

Schleich' ich gern im Abendschein
An das öde Schilfgestade,
Mädchen, und gedenke dein!

Wenn sich dann der Busch verdüstert,
Rauscht das Rohr geheimnisvoll,
Und es klaget und es flüstert,
Daß ich weinen, weinen soll.

Und ich mein', ich höre wehen
Leise deiner Stimme Klang,
Und im Weiher untergehen
Deinen lieblichen Gesang.

Le long d'un chemin secret de la forêt
J'aime me faufiler dans la lumière du soir ;
Je vais vers la rive déserte couverte de roseaux,
Ma mie, et je pense à toi !

Quand les buissons deviennent noirs,
Les roseaux murmurent mystérieusement,
Il y a des lamentations, des chuchotements,
De sorte que je pleure et ne peux m'empêcher de pleurer.

Et je pense que j'entends flotter
Doucement le son de ta voix,
Et en bas dans l'étang
Ton adorable chant.
