Es grüßet dich, die thränenlose,
[Vom Norden der Wind, der eisige Wind,]1

Vom Norden der Wind - er klopft an die Scheiben,
Er klopft mit den starren Fingern an!
Er will an das weinende Fenster schreiben,
Was die böse [Welt uns angethan]2.

Kein rettender Thau wird dir erscheinen!
O Rose, dein Kelch ist ein Kelch der Passion!
Wir haben Beide verlernt zu weinen;
Wir sind so jung noch, und welken schon!
