Unter die Soldaten ist
Ein Zigeunerbub' gegangen,
Mit dem Handgeld ging er durch,
Und morgen muß er hangen.

Holten mich aus meinem Kerker,
Setzten auf den Esel mich,
Geißelten mir meine Schultern,
Daß das Blut floß auf den Weg.

Holten mich aus meinem Kerker,
Stießen mich ins Weite fort,
Griff ich rasch nach meiner Büchse,
Tat auf sie den ersten Schuß.

Onder de soldaten had
een zigeunerknaap zijn gangen,
Met het handgeld liep hij weg,
en morgen moet hij hangen.

Ze haalden mij uit mijn kerker,
reden me1 op een ezel weg,
Geselden zo hard mijn schouders,
dat het bloed liep op de weg.

Ze haalden mij uit mijn kerker,
joegen mij de wereld in,
Ik greep vliegensvlug mijn wapen,
lost' op hen het eerste schot.
