 Die Gabe, die dem Himmel g'nügt?
 Ich kenne die Urnen, mit Schätzen gefüllt,
 Tief unter Tschelminars Säulen verhüllt;
 Ich sah der Weihrauchinseln Grün
 Viel Klaftern tief im Meere blühn;
 Ich weiß auch, wo die Genien
 König Jamschids Pokal verhehlen.
 Er ist von Gold und von Juwelen,
 Und Lebenstropfen sind sein Getränk.
 Doch will auch der Himmel solch Geschenk?
 Strahlt je der Demant einer Krone
 Wie die Stufen an Allahs Wunderthrone?
 Und, o ihr Lebenstropfen, was seid
 Ihr für die Tiefen der Ewigkeit!

 Conozco las urnas de tesoros llenas, 
 profundamente ocultos bajo las columnas de Chilminar,
 he visto las verdes islas del incienso
 que se encuentran en el mar profundo;
 sé también en dónde esconden los Genios
 la copa del rey Jamshid, 
 hecha de oro y gemas
 y llena del elixir de la vida. 
 ¿Mas quiere el Cielo tal presente?
 ¿Brillan los diamantes de una corona
 como las gradas del trono de Alá?
