Auf den Wällen Salamankas
sind die Lüfte lind und labend;
dort, mit meiner holden Donna,
wandle ich am Sommerabend.

Um den schlanken Leib der Schönen
hab ich meinen Arm gebogen,
und mit selgem Finger fühl ich
ihres Busens stolzes Wogen.

Doch ein ängstliches Geflüster
zieht sich durch die Lindenbäume,
und der dunkle Mühlbach unten
murmelt böse, bange Träume.

"Ach, Señora, Ahnung sagt mir:
Einst wird man mich relegieren,
und auf Salamankas Wällen
gehn wir nimmermehr spazieren."

Là-bas avec ma gracieuse doña,
Je me promène les soirs d'été.

Autour du svelte corps de la belle
J'ai enroulé mon bras
Et de mes doigts ravis je sens
La fière ondulation de sa poitrine.

Pourtant un chuchotement craintif
Se faufile parmi les tilleuls,
Et le sombre chenal en-bas
Murmure de mauvais rêves angoissants.

"Ah, señora, un pressentiment me dit:
Un jour on me renverrra,
Et sur les murs de Salamanque
Nous n'irons plus jamais nous promener."
