Allnächtlich im Traume seh' ich dich
Und sehe dich freundlich grüßen,
Und laut aufweinend stürz' ich mich
Zu deinen süßen Füßen.

Du siehst mich an wehmütiglich
Und schüttelst das blonde Köpfchen;
Aus deinen Augen schleichen die Perlentröpfchen.

Du sagst mir heimlich ein leises Wort
Und gibst mir den Strauß von Zypressen.
Ich wache auf, und der Strauß ist fort,
Und das Wort hab' ich vergessen.

Κάθε νύχτα, σε βλέπω σε όνειρο:
με υποδέχεσαι ευγενικά,
κι εγώ ρίχνομαι με λυγμούς
στα πόδια σου τα λατρεμένα.

Με κοιτάς με μελαγχολία,
κουνώντας το μικρό ξανθό σου κεφαλάκι:
απ’ τα μάτια σου ξεφεύγουν, φευγαλέα,
τα μαργαριτάρια των δακρύων σου.

Πολύ σιγά, μου λες μια λέξη στοργική,
προσφέροντας μου ένα μπουκέτο από κυπαρίσσι·
Ξυπνώ: κανένα μπουκέτο πια
Και την λέξη, την έχω ξεχάσει.
