II
7. Qu'un songe au ciel m'enlève,
Que, plein d'ombre et d'amour,
Jamais il ne s'achève,
Et que la nuit je rêve
A mon rêve du jour !

Aussi blanc que la voile
Qu'à l'horizon je vois,
Qu'il recèle une étoile,
Et qu'il soit comme un voile
Entre la vie et moi !

Que la muse qui plonge
En ma nuit pour briller
Le dore et le prolonge,
Et de l'éternel songe
Craigne de m'éveiller !

Que toutes mes pensées
Viennent s'y déployer,
Et s'asseoir, empressées,
Se tenant embrassées,
En cercle à mon foyer !

Qu'à mon rêve enchaînées,
Toutes, l'œil triomphant,
Le bercent inclinées,
Comme des sœurs aînées
Bercent leur frère enfant !

II
May a dream lift me into the sky
may a dream full of shadow and love
never ever end,
and may I dream in the night
of my dream I had that day.

May it be white as the sail
that I see on the horizon
may it contain a star,
and be like a veil
between life and me!

May the muse that dives
into my night to shine
prolong it and gild it,
and fear to wake me
from the eternal dream!

May all my thoughts
come and unfold there,
and sit, eagerly
holding each other
in a circle around my hearth!

And may they all, chained to my dream
with eyes full of triumph,
bend down to rock it,
like older sisters
rocking their baby brother!
