Könnt' ich dich in Liedern preisen,
Säng' ich dir das längste Lied.
Ja, ich würd' in allen Weisen
Dich zu singen nimmer müd'!

Doch was immer mich betrübte,
Ist, daß ich nur immer stumm
Tragen kann dich, Herzgeliebte,
In des Busens Heiligtum.

 ...

Dieser Schmerz hat mich bezwungen,
Daß ich sang dies kleine Lied,
Doch von bitterm Schmerz durchdrungen,
Daß noch keins auf dich geriet.

Note: the text above is taken from stanzas 1-2,4 of the original text.

Stille liefde
(Sung text translation for setting by A. Mier)
 See original
Language: Dutch (Nederlands)  after the German (Deutsch)
Kon ik jou in lied'ren prijzen,
Dan zong 'k jou het langste lied.
Hoe 'k jou prees, op alle wijzen,
Moe werd 'k daarvan eeuwig niet.

Maar wat altijd mij frustreerde,
Is dat 'k altijd in 't geheim
Jou moet koest'ren, diep vereerde,
In mijn hart als heilig schrijn.

 ...

Deze pijn heeft mij gedwongen,
Jou te eren met dit lied,
Maar 't is scherp van 't leed doordrongen:
Jou bereiken kon 'k nog niet.

Note: the text above is taken from stanzas 1-2,4 of the original text.
