Feinsliebchen weint und schreiet,
Daß ich am Schrei erwacht,
Da lieg' ich, ach! in Augsburg
Gefangen auf der Wacht.
Tralirumla! Tralirumla!
Und morgen muß ich hangen,
Feinslieb mich nicht mehr ruft,
Wohl morgen als ein Vogel
Schwank ich in freier Luft.

C'était un rêve : anxieux je volais
Au loin, dans le vaste monde,
Vers Strasbourg, dans de toutes les rues,
Jusqu'à la maison de ma petite chérie.
Ma petite chérie était chagrinée
Que je vole ainsi et dit en pleurant :
«Celui qui t'a appris à voler ainsi
Est un méchant diable.»
«Petite chérie, il ne sert à rien de te mentir
Alors que tu sais déjà tout !
Celui qui m'a appris à voler
Est l'esprit du mal.»
Ma petite chérie pleurait et criait,
Tant qu'à ses cris je m'éveillai,
Et me voilà couché, hélas, à Augsbourg,
Prisonnier bien éveillé.
Et demain je devrai être pendu,
Petite chérie ne m'appellera plus,
Demain, déjà comme un oiseau,
Je me balancerai à l'air libre.
