Vom Berg hinab gestiegen Ist nun des Tages Rest; Mein Kind liegt in der Wiegen, Die Vöglein all' im Nest; Nur ein ganz klein Singvögelein Ruft weit daher im Dämmerschein: "Gut' Nacht! gut' Nacht! Lieb' Kindlein, gute Nacht!" Das Spielzeug ruht im Schreine, Die Kleider auf der Bank, Ein Mäuslein ganz alleine Es raschelt noch im Schrank, Und draußen steht der Abendstern Und winkt dem Kind aus weiter Fern': "Gut' Nacht! gut' Nacht! Dietro al monte disceso ora finisce il giorno. Sta nella culla il bimbo nel nido gli uccellini; Ne resta uno soltanto che canta lontano al tramonto: "Buona notte! buona notte! Bambino bello, buona notte!". I giocattoli stanno nella panca i vestiti nell'armadio, un topolino tutto solo raschia nella dispensa, e in alto la stella della sera sorride al bimbo da lontano: "Buona notte! buona notte! Bambino bello, buona notte!". La culla dondola lieve la pendola fa tic-tac, Le mosche ancora in volo vanno ronzando piano. Mosche non molestate il mio bimbo! Cosa gli dite col vostro ronzio? "Buona notte! buona notte! Bambino bello, buona notte!". Gli uccelli e tutte le stelle che stanno attorno al mio bimbo, gli vogliono tanto bene, e gli angeli ancora di più! Lo proteggono con le loro ali e cantano dolcemente: "Dormi sereno, Buona notte! buona notte! Bambino bello, buona notte!".
