So kann es auch jetzt nicht beim Abschied geschehn.

Ade, Ihr Bäume, Ihr Gärten so grün, Ade! 
Nun reit' ich am silbernen Strome entlang,
Weit schallend ertönet mein Abschiedsgesang;
Nie habt Ihr ein trauriges Lied gehört,
So wird Euch auch keines beim Scheiden beschert.

Note: in Schubert's autograph, line 3 begins "Jetzt nimm ich den letzten", but in printed editions except Neue Gesamtausgabe, it is "Jetzt nimm noch den".

Nunca me has visto triste, 
y ahora en la partida, tampoco estaré.

¡Adiós, árboles, verdes jardines, adiós!
Cabalgo a lo largo de la plateada corriente,
y a lo lejos se oye el eco de mi canción de despedida;
nunca me habéis oído una canción triste,
ahora en la partida, tampoco os cantaré ninguna.

¡Adiós, alegres muchachas, adiós! 
¿Qué miráis desde la casa perfumada de flores 
con maliciosos ojos seductores?
Como antes, vuelvo la cabeza y saludo,
pero jamás daré vuelta a mi caballo.

¡Adiós, amable sol, que vas a descansar, adiós! 
Ya cintilan las brillantes estrellas doradas.
