Der Soldat

Es geht bei gedämpfter Trommel Klang;

Bei klingendem Spiele wird paradiert;
Dazu bin auch ich kommandiert.

Nun schaut er auf zum letzten Mal
In Gottes Sonne freud'gen Strahl, --
Nun binden sie ihm die Augen zu --
Dir schenke Gott die ewige Ruh'.

Es haben die Neun wohl angelegt,
Acht Kugeln haben vorbei gefegt;

 (Sung text translation for setting by H. Marschner)
 See original
Language: Catalan (Català)  after the German (Deutsch)
Camino al so esmorteït del tambor;
que lluny és el lloc! Que llarg el camí!
Oh, si pogués descansar i tot hagués passat!
Crec que se’m partirà el cor!

En aquest món, només a ell he estimat,
només a ell, a qui ara hom vol afusellar!
Desfilen al so de la banda
i jo també hi sóc comandat.

Per darrera vegada, ell esguarda
els joiosos raigs del sol de Déu,
ara li posen una bena als ulls –
que Déu et doni la pau eterna!

Els nou han apuntat els fusells;
