Lass tief in dir mich lesen
(Sung text for setting by M. Schnorr von Carolsfeld)
 See original
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  CAT DUT ENG FRE
Laß tief in dir mich lesen,
Verhehl' auch dies mir nicht,
Was für ein Zauberwesen
Aus deiner Stimme spricht!

So viele Worte dringen
Ans Ohr uns ohne Plan,
Und während sie verklingen,
Ist alles abgetan!

Doch drängt auch nur von ferne
Dein Ton zu mir sich her,
Belausch' ich ihn so gerne,
Vergess' ich ihn so schwer.

Ich bebe dann, und glimme
Von allzu rascher Glut:
Mein Herz und deine Stimme
Verstehn sich gar zu gut!

Composition:

Set to music by Malvina Schnorr von Carolsfeld (1825 - 1904), "Lass tief in dir mich lesen" [ voice and piano ]

Text Authorship:

  • by August von Platen-Hallermünde (1796 - 1835), no title, appears in Gedichte, in Romanzen und Jugendlieder, no. 14

Haar stem
(Sung text translation for setting by M. Schnorr von Carolsfeld)
 See original
Language: Dutch (Nederlands)  after the German (Deutsch)
Laat diep mij in jou lezen,
Zorg dat j' ook niet versteekt,
Wat voor een toverwezen
In jouw stem tot mij spreekt!

Zo vele woorden zinken
Ons doelloos in het oor;
Terwijl zij nog verklinken
Gaat alles al teloor!

Maar word ik slechts van verre
Jouw stemgeluid gewaar,
Dan hoor ik zang van sterren,
't Vergeten valt mij zwaar.

Dan beef ik, ga 'k ontsteken
In al te snelle gloed:
Mijn hart en jouw lief spreken
Verstaan elkaar te goed!
