Ja passa gent pel carrer
i el mercat es va animant,
car prou bé el matí, l’esblaimat,
ja aixeca les seves blanques ales.
I em fa por que escandalitzis
als nostres veïns:
car ells no saben com profundament
jo t’estimo i tu també m’estimes.
Per això, estimat, vés-te’n ara!
Mira, ja es fa de dia.
Si el sol brillant al cel
fa fugir les clares perles de rosada,
haig també de deixar anar tot plorant
la perla que fou el meu tresor?
El que per a altres refulgeix com el dia,
per als meus ulls sembla la nit,
car l’angoixant separació se’m fa vespre
quan l’alba es desperta.
Vés-te’n, estimat, vés-te’n ara!
Mira, ja es fa de dia.

Fuig doncs dels meus braços!
Car si t’atardes massa temps,

Els suplicis del purgatori
