- Comment vivrai-je, en la détresse
Qui m'enveloppe & qui m'oppresse,
Comme fait au mort son linceul ?
 
Et l'écho m'a répondu : - Seul !

- Grâce ! le sort est trop sévère !
Mon coeur se révolte ! Que faire
Pour en étouffer les rumeurs ?
 
Et l'écho m'a répondu : - Meurs !
