Aus alten Märchen winkt es
Hervor mit weißer Hand,
Da singt es und da klingt es
Von einem Zauberland;
Wo bunte Blumen blühen
Im gold'nen Abendlicht,
Und lieblich duftend glühen,
Mit bräutlichem Gesicht;
Und grüne Bäume singen
Uralte Melodei'n,
Die Lüfte heimlich klingen,
Und Vögel schmettern drein;
Und Nebelbilder steigen
Wohl aus der Erd' hervor,
Und tanzen lust'gen Reigen
Im wunderlichen Chor;
Und blaue Funken brennen
Auf jedem Blatt und Reis,
Und rote Lichter brennen
Im irren, wirren Kreis;
Und laute Quellen brechen
Aus wildem Marmorstein.
Und seltsam in den Bächen
Strahlt fort der Widerschein.
Ach, könnt' ich dorthin kommen,
Und dort mein Herz erfreu'n,
Und aller Qual entnommen,
Und frei und selig sein!

Desde los viejos cuentos
hace adiós una blanca mano,
donde se canta y se toca
sobre un país encantado,
donde flores variopintas se abren
a la luz dorada del poniente,
y fulgen, perfumando dulcemente,
con rostro de novia;
y los árboles verdes cantan
melodías antiquísimas,
las brisas suenan en secreto
y los pájaros trinan;
y figuras de niebla
se elevan de la tierra,
y danzan airosas rondas
en extraño corro;
y chispas azules arden
en cada hoja y rama,
y luces rojas corren
en alocado y confuso círculo;
y sonoras fuentes brotan
de las canteras de mármol,
y en los arroyos
reluce un extraño reflejo.
¡Si pudiera ir allá
y regocijar mi corazón
y, quitado todo tormento,
ser libre y dichoso!
