Beim Abschied zu singen
 (Sung text for setting by R. Schumann)

Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  CAT DUT ENG ENG FRE
Es ist bestimmt in Gottes Rath,
Daß man vom Liebsten, was man hat,
Muß scheiden;
Wiewohl doch Nichts im Lauf der Welt
Dem Herzen ach! so sauer fällt,
Als Scheiden! ja Scheiden!

So dir geschenkt ein Knösplein was,
So thu' es in ein Wasserglas, --
Doch wisse:
Blüht morgen dir ein Röslein auf,
Es welkt wohl schon die Nacht darauf;
Das wisse! ja wisse!

Und hat dir Gott ein Lieb bescheert,
Und hältst du sie recht innig werth,
Die Deine --
Es werden wohl acht Bretter seyn,
Da legst du sie, wie bald! hinein;
Dann weine! ja weine!

Nur mußt du mich auch recht verstehn,
Ja, recht verstehn!
Wenn Menschen auseinandergehn,
So sagen sie: auf Wiedersehn!
Ja Wiedersehn!

Bij het afscheid te zingen
 (Sung text translation for setting by R. Schumann)
 See original
Language: Dutch (Nederlands)  after the German (Deutsch)
De wijsheid Gods heeft 't zo gebouwd
Dat men van waar men 't meest van houdt,
Moet scheiden;
Hoewel toch niets op heel de aard
Ons hart, ach, erger nog bezwaart
Dan scheiden, ja, scheiden!

Kreeg je cadeau een bloemknop pas,
Zet hem maar in een waterglas,
Maar weet wel:
Bloeit morgen daar een roos uit op,
Zij kwijnt al weer de nacht daarop;
Ja, weet wel, ja, weet wel!

Kreeg je van God een lieve vrouw,
En is zij haast een deel van jou,
Onscheidbaar,
;
Dan schrei maar, ja schrei maar!

Nu moet je mij ook goed verstaan,
Ja, goed verstaan!
Als mensen uit elkander gaan,
Dan zeggen ze: 'Tot weerziens dan!
Tot weerziens dan!'.
