Vor ihrem Bilde
(Sung text for setting by J. Mendel)

Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  CAT DUT ENG ENG FIN FIN FRE FRE GRE ITA KOR LIT NOR SPA
Ich stand in dunklen Träumen
Und starrte ihr Bildniß an,
Und das geliebte Antlitz
Heimlich zu leben begann.

Um ihre Lippen zog sich
Ein Lächeln wunderbar,
Und wie von Wehmuthsthränen
Erglänzte ihr Augenpaar.

Auch meine Thränen flossen
Mir von den Wangen herab --
Und ach, ich kann's nicht glauben,
Daß ich Dich verloren hab'!

J'étais plongé en de sombres rêveries
(Sung text translation for setting by J. Mendel)
 See original
Language: French (Français)  after the German (Deutsch)
J'étais plongé en de sombres rêveries
Et fixais son portrait,
Alors le visage aimé
Commença à s'animer secrètement.

Autour de ses lèvres se dessina
Un merveilleux sourire
Et des larmes mélancoliques
Brillèrent dans ses yeux.

Mes larmes aussi coulèrent
Le long de mes joues -
Hélas, je ne puis croire,
Que je t'ai perdue!
