Pflücken von jedem Zweig,
Ich möchte die grünen Gräser all'
Weinen so bleich, so bleich.

Minä tahtoisin lähteä maailmalle
kauas pois avaraan maailmaan;
ellei siellä olisi niin vihreää
siellä kaukana metsissä ja vainioilla.

Minä tahtoisin nyppiä kaikki vihreät lehdet
irti joka ainoasta oksasta,
minä tahtoisin itkeä kaikki ruohot
vihreästä kuolemankalvakoiksi

Tahtoisin vaipua maahan hänen ovensa eteen
myrskyssä, sateessa ja tuiskussa,
ja vain aivan hiljaa laulaa päivin ja öin
