Wie treibt's mich von den Menschen fort!
Mein Leid, das hebt kein Menschenwort,
Nur junges Grün ans Herz gelegt,
Macht, daß mein Herze stiller schlägt.

Quanti cuori per te guariscono,
che soffrivano per la neve dell'inverno,
o come il mio cuore ti desidera!
Già appena ti desti dalla notte della terra,
come sorride a te il mio sguardo!
Qui nel quieto fondo del bosco,
ti premo, verde, sul cuore e sulla bocca.
Che voglia di allontanarmi dalla gente!
Il mio dolore, parola umana non conforta:
solo il giovane verde sul mio cuore
lo fa battere più sereno.
