  O Lust, vom Berg zu schauen
Weit über Wald und Strom,
Hoch über sich den blauen
den klaren Himmelsdom !
 Hoch über sich den blauen
tiefklaren Himmelsdom!

  Vom Berge Vögel fliegen
Und Wolken so geschwind,
Gedanken überfliegen
Die Vögel und den Wind.

  Die Wolken ziehn hernieder,
Das Vöglein senkt sich gleich,
Gedanken gehn und Lieder
bis in das Himmelreich.

Berggenot
 (Sung text translation for setting by F. Hensel)
 See original
Language: Dutch (Nederlands)  after the German (Deutsch)
 ...

Hoe mooi, van ’n berg te kijken
Ver over ’t wijde dal,
Hoog boven je de rijke,
De blauwe hemelhal!

Van de berg af vliegen vogels
En wolken zeer gezwind;
Gedachten vliegen hoger
Dan vogels en dan wind.

De wolken neerwaarts vlieden,
De vogels ook, gelijk;
Gedachten gaan en lied’ren
Ver tot in ’t hemelrijk.

Note: the text above is taken from stanzas 4-6 of the original text.

Note for stanza 5, line 1: "Van de": bij Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel te zingen op twee zestienden.
