Hörst du nicht die Bäume rauschen
Draußen durch die stille Rund?
Lockts dich nicht, hinabzulauschen
Von dem Söller in den Grund,
Wo die vielen Bäche gehen
Wunderbar im Mondenschein
Und die stillen Burgen sehen
In den Fluß vom hohen Stein?

Kennst du noch die süssen Lieder
Aus der alten, schönen Zeit?
Sie erwachen alle wieder
Nachts in Waldeseinsamkeit,
Wenn die Bäume träumend lauschen
Und der Flieder duftet schwül
Und im Fluß die Nixen rauschen -
Komm herab, hier ist's so kühl.

Dehors dans la paisible ronde (divine) ?
N'es-tu pas tenté d'écouter depuis le balcon
Cette musique qui vient des terres d'en-bas,
Où s'en vont les nombreux ruisseaux
Merveilleux au clair de lune,
Où les paisibles châteaux regardent
dans la rivière depuis leur haut rocher ?
 
Connais-tu encore les airs insensés
Du bon vieux temps passé ?
Ils se réveillent tous de nouveau
La nuit dans la solitude de la forêt,
Lorsque les arbres rêveurs prêtent l'oreille
Que le lilas répand son lourd parfun,
Et que dans la rivière les ondines murmurent :
Viens, descends, ici il fait si doux.
