Selig ist ein Sternlein drüben
 (Sung text for setting by G. Jenner)
 See original
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Italian (Italiano)
Our translations:  ENG
Selig ist ein Sternlein drüben,
Das dem Mond zur Seite geht;
Wol ein Engel mag es lieben,
Der in seinen Diensten steht.

Traurig ist's zu sein geboren
Freudenlos und ohne Glück,
Von den Menschen nicht erkoren,
Und verstoßen vom Geschick.

O du Schicksal ohne Liebe,
Wessen Hand ist's, die mich hält?
Nicht geliebt von keiner Liebe,
Als vom Unglück in der Welt.

Composition:

    Set to music by Gustav Jenner (1865 - 1920), "Selig ist ein Sternlein drüben", op. 3 no. 12, published 1894 [ SSA chorus or vocal trio of three female voices with piano ], from Zwölf Gesänge für dreistimmigen Frauenchor (SSA) oder 3 einzelne Frauenstimmen mit Pianoforte, no. 12, Berlin, Schlesinger

Blissful is a little star yonder
 (Sung text translation for setting by G. Jenner)
 See original
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Blissful is a little star yonder
Who walks at the side of the moon;
An angel might well love it,
An angel who is in its service.

It is sad to have been born
Joyless and without good fortune
Not chosen by humankind,
And rejected by fate.

Oh you loveless fate,
Whose hand is it that holds me?
Not loved by any love
Other than by the misfortune in the world.

Translated titles:
"Chor" = "Chorus"
"Selig ist das Sternlein droben" = "Blissful is the little star on high"
"Selig ist ein Sternlein drüben" = "Blissful is a little star yonder"
"Selig ist das Sternlein drüben" = "Blissful is the little star yonder"
