Als ich noch ein Knabe war,
Sperrte man mich ein;
Und so saß ich manches Jahr
Über mir allein,
Wie im Mutterleib.

Doch du warst mein Zeitvertreib,
Goldne Phantasie,
Und ich ward ein warmer Held,
Wie der Prinz Pipi,
Und durchzog die Welt.

Baute manch kristallen Schloß
Und zerstört es auch,
Warf mein blinkendes Geschoß
Drachen durch den Bauch,
Ja, ich war ein Mann!

Ritterlich befreit ich dann
Die Prinzessin Fisch;
Sie war gar zu obligeant,
Führte mich zu Tisch,
Und ich war galant.

Und ihr Kuß war Götterbrot,
Glühend wie der Wein.
Ach! Ich liebte fast mich todt!
Rings mit Sonnenschein
War sie emailliert.

Ach wer hat sie mir entführt?
Hielt kein Zauberband
Sie zurück vom schnellen Fliehn?
Sagt, wo ist ihr Land?
Wo der Weg dahin?

El nou Amadís
 (Sung text translation for setting by H. Wolf)
 See original
Language: Catalan (Català)  after the German (Deutsch)
Quan encara era un noiet
m’empresonaren;
i així vaig restar molts anys
tot sol
com al ventre de ma mare.

Però tu fores el meu passatemps,
àuria fantasia,
i jo vaig esdevenir un ardent heroi,
com el príncep Pipi,
i vaig recórrer el món.

Vaig construir molts castells de cristall
i també els vaig destruir.
Vaig llançar la meva brillant javelina
al ventre del drac,
sí, jo era un home!

Cavalleresc, vaig alliberar
la princesa Peix;
ella restà molt agraïda,
em convidà a la seva taula,
i jo vaig ser galant.

El seu bes era com mannà del cel,
ardent com el vi.
Ai, jo l’estimava fins a morir!
Envoltada de la llum del sol,
semblava una figura esmaltada.

Ai, qui me l’ha raptat?
Cap lligam màgic l’ha retingut
de la seva fuga deslleial?
Digueu-me, on és el seu país?
On és el camí per arribar-hi?
