Ich bin vom Berg der Hirtenknab,
Seh auf die Schlösser all herab. 
Die Sonne strahlt am ersten hier,
Am längsten weilet sie bei mir,
Ich bin der Knab' vom Berge.

Hier ist des Stromes Mutterhaus,
Ich trink' ihn frisch vom Stein heraus,
Er braust vom Fels in wildem Lauf,
Ich fang' ihn mit den Armen auf.
Ich bin der Knab' vom Berge.

Und wenn die Sturmglock' einst erschallt,
Manch Feuer auf den Bergen wallt,
Dann steig' ich nieder, tret' ins Glied
Und schwing' mein Schwert und sing' mein Lied:

Ik ben de herder op de berg,
Zie burchten onder mij als dwerg.
De zon verschijnt het eerste hier,
En schenkt mij ook haar laatst kwartier.
Ik ben de bergenjongen!

Hier heeft de waterstroom zijn bron,
Ik drink het fris, uit stenen spon.
Het bruist de rots af in galop,
Ik vang het met mijn armen op.
Ik ben de bergenjongen!

En als de stormklok soms weerklinkt,
Als vuurgloed op de bergen springt,
Dan daal ik af, meld mij subiet
En zwaai mijn zwaard en zing mijn lied:
