   Sterne mit den goldnen Füßchen,
Wandeln droben bang und sacht,
Daß sie nicht die Erde wecken
Die da schläft im Schoß der Nacht.
 
   Horchend stehn die stummen Wälder,
Jedes Blatt ein grünes Ohr!
Und der Berg, wie träumend streckt er
Seinen Schattenarm hervor.
 
   Doch was rief es? In mein Herze
Dringt der Töne Widerhall.
War es der Geliebten Stimme,
Oder war's die Nachtigall?

Qui dort dans le sein de la nuit.

Les forêts muettes se tiennent à l'écoute,
Chaque feuille est une oreille verte !
Et rêveuse, la montagne étend
Devant elle l'ombre de son bras.

Mais qui appelle là-bas ? l'écho d'un son
Pénètre dans mon cœur .
Était-ce la voix de ma bien-aimée,
Ou bien juste un rossignol ?
