Vildt, vildt, vildt suser Blæsten,
Sommer er næsten draget af Land.
Mod Bryggerne skvulper det sortnende Vand;
Jeg så ham på Bryggen, den kongelige Mand.

Hans Øje var dybt som Fjorden derude;
Jeg kunne mig sænke derned.
På Brystet det brede lå fløjelets Bude;
Jeg kunne mig hvile derved.

For Foden jeg kunne ham falde med Suk
Og smile, om Hånden min Pande strøg.
De sagde så ofte, at Duen var smuk.
Nu ved jeg først, hvem der er Høg!

Vildt, vildt, vildt suser Blæsten,
Hvem der ved Festen iaften var med!
Jeg blev vel på Tærskelen stående ræd, -
Og dansed' dog gerne afsted!

Hans Øje var dybt som Fjorden derude;
Jeg kunne mig sænke derned.

L'été est presque traîné hors du pays.
Les flots noirs battent contre les jetées ;
Je l'ai vu sur le quai, cet homme royal.

Son regard était profond comme les fjords ;
J'aurais pu m'y noyer.
Il avait sur sa large poitrine un coussinet de velours ;
J'aurais pu m'y reposer.

J'aurais pu m'incliner devant ses pieds avec un soupir
Et sourire, sur sa main poser mon front.
On dit si souvent que les colombes sont jolies.
Je sais maintenant qui est l'épervier !

Le vent souffle fort, fort, fort,
Si je pouvais être à la fête ce soir !
Je resterais bien intimidée sur le seuil,
Et pourtant j'aimerais bien aller danser !
