Und willst du das zärtliche Rehlein sehn, So laß deine Büchsen im Walde stehn, Und laß deine klaffenden Hunde zu Haus, Und laß auf dem Horne den Saus und Braus, Und scheere vom Kinne das struppige Haar, Sonst scheut sich im Garten das Rehlein fürwahr. Μα τι ζητάει ο κυνηγός εδώ στο ρυάκι του μύλου; Μείνε πεισματάρη κυνηγέ στα δικά σου κατατόπια! Εδώ δεν υπάρχει για σένα κανένα θήραμα να κυνηγήσεις, Εδώ μένει μόνο ένα ελαφάκι, ήμερο, για μένα, Κι αν θέλεις να δεις το τρυφερό ελαφάκι, Τότε άφησε τα τουφέκια σου στο δάσος, Κι άφησε τα σκυλιά σου που γαβγίζουν στο σπίτι, Και σταμάτα το κέρας να φυσάς και να σφυρίζεις, Και κόψε από το πηγούνι τα δασύτριχα γένια, Αλλιώς θα φοβάται το ελαφάκι στον κήπο για τα καλά. Ακόμα καλύτερα αν έμενες στο δάσος Και άφηνες τους μύλους και τους μυλωνάδες σε ησυχία.
