Here is the glen, and here the bower

Here is the glen, and here the bower
All underneath the birchen shade,
The village bell has toll'd the hour –
O, what can stay my lovely maid?
'Tis not Maria's whispering call –
'Tis but the balmy, breathing gale,
Mixt with some warbler's dying fall
The dewy star of eve to hail!

It is Maria's voice I hear!
So calls the woodlark in the grove
His faithful mate to cheer :
At once 'tis music - and 'tis love!
And art thou come? and art thou true?
O, welcome, dear, to love and me,
And let us all our vows renew
Along the flowery banks of Cree !

Tout  en dessous de l'ombre des bouleaux,
La cloche du village a sonné l'heure –
Ô qui peut retenir ma charmante bien-aimée ?
Ce n'est pas l'appel murmuré de Maria –
Ce n'est que la respiration parfumée du vent,
Mêlée à la chute de la trille de quelque fauvette
Qui salue l'étoile du soir, humide de rosée !

C'est la voix de Maria que j'entends !
Dans le bosquet, l'alouette des bois appelle ainsi
Son fidèle compagnon pour s'égayer :
D'un coup c'est de la musique, c'est de l'amour !
Est-ce toi qui viens ? Et es-tu fidèle ?
Oh, sois bienvenue chère, pour l'amour et pour moi,
Et renouvelons tous nos serments
Sur les rives fleuries de la Cree !
