Angedenken

Berg' und Täler wieder fingen
Ringsumher zu blühen an,
Aus dem Walde hört' ich singen
Einen lust'gen Jägersmann.

Und die Tränen drangen leise:
So einst blüht' es weit und breit,
Als mein Lieb dieselbe Weise
Mich gelehrt vor langer Zeit.

Ach, ein solches Angedenken
'S ist nur eitel Klang und Luft,
Und kann schimmernd doch versenken
Rings in Tränen Tal und Kluft!

À fleurir tout autour,
Venant de la forêt, j'entends chanter
Un joyeux chasseur.

Et mes larmes montent doucement :
Naguère cela fleurissait partout ainsi,
Comme de la même manière mon amour
Me l'avait depuis longtemps appris.

Hélas, de tels souvenirs
Ne sont que vaines paroles en l'air,
Et pourtant ils peuvent submerger
De larmes vallées et abîmes alentour !
