Der helle Laut der Kastagnetten zerreißt des Rosengartens Stille, indes aus seiner duftgeheimnisvollen Tiefe der Flöte Klagetriller strömen. Die Melodie, ein silbern Klingen, zuweilen heiter, manchmal traurig, im ruhelosen Flimmerlichte, das lange schmerzerfüllte Schatten wirft: klirrende Kastagnetten und vielgestaltig Spiel der Flöten! Unausgedrückte Freud’ in Liedern sprießt aus den verschlossnen Gärten, und oben an den Rosenstöcken, geheimste Winkel mit Girlanden kränzend, öffnen Blüten sich, wie weiche Lippen!
