La melodia, con tintinnio d'argenti,
Par che a vicenda s'attristi e s'allieti,
Ora luce di tremiti inquieti,
Or diffondendo lunghe ombre dolenti:
Cròtali arguti e canne variotocche!,
Una gioia di cantici inespressi
Per voi par che dai chiusi orti rampolli,
E in sommo dei rosai, che cingon molli
Ghirlande al cuor degli intimi recessi,
S'apron le rose come molli bocche!

Un bruit de crotales crépitant
Rompt en rythme le silence des rosiers,
Tandis qu'au fond des jardins secrets et odorants
Une flûte lance des trilles de complaintes liquides.
La mélodie avec un tintement d'argent
Hésite entre la tristesse et la joie,
Tantôt brillant de tremblements inquiets,
Tantôt lançant de longues ombres douloureuses :
Les crotales aigus et les flûtes à plusieurs sons !
Une joie de chants inexprimés
Jaillit pour vous des jardins fermés,
Et au sommet des rosiers qu'entoure une douce
Guirlande au cœur des recoins intimes,
Les roses s'ouvrent comme des bouches douces !
