Our translations:  FRE
In solchen Nächten, wie vor vielen Tagen,
fangen die Herzen in den Sarkophagen
vergangner Fürsten wieder an zu gehn;
und so gewaltig drängt ihr Wiederschlagen
gegen [die]1 Kapseln, welche widerstehn,
daß sie die goldnen Schalen weitertragen
durch Dunkel und Damaste, die zerfallen.
Schwarz schwankt der Dom mit allen seinen Hallen.
Die Glocken, die sich in die Türme krallen,
hängen wie Vögel, bebend stehn die Türen,
und an den Trägern zittert jedes Glied:
als trügen seinen gründenden Granit
blinde Schildkröten, die sich rühren.

dans les sarcophages les cœurs
des princes du temps passé recommencent à battre :
et leurs nouveaux battements frappent si fort
les enveloppes qui résistent,
que les coupes d'or les propagent
à travers l'obscurité et les damas désagrégés.
La noire cathédrale vacille, avec toutes ses salles.
Les cloches qui se cramponnent dans le clocher
pendent comme des oiseaux, les portes tressautent,
et chaque membre de la charpente tremble :
Comme si le granit de ses fondations était porté
par des tortues aveugles en mouvement.
