In tiefer Ruh liegt um mich her
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): CAT DUT ENG FIN FRE GRE ITA KOR LIT NOR POR SPA
In tiefer Ruh liegt um mich her
Der Waffenbrüder Kreis;
Mir ist das Herz so bang [und]1 schwer,
Von Sehnsucht mir so heiß.

Wie hab' ich oft so süß [geruht]2
An ihrem Busen warm!
Wie freundlich schien des Heerdes Gluth,
Lag sie in meinem Arm!

Hier, wo der [Flammen]3 düstrer Schein
Ach nur auf Waffen spielt,
Hier fühlt die Brust sich ganz allein,
Der Wehmuth Thräne quillt.

Herz! Daß der Trost Dich nicht verläßt!
[Es]4 ruft noch manche Schlacht. -
Bald ruh' ich wohl und schlafe fest,
Herzliebste - Gute Nacht!

Krigerens forutanelser
Language: Norwegian (Bokmål)  after the German (Deutsch)
I dyp ro ligger mine våpenbrødre
rundt meg i en sirkel;
Mitt hjerte er så engstelig og tungt,
så hett av lengsel.

Hvor ofte har jeg vel drømt søtelig
ved hennes varme bryst!
Hvor vennlig skinte ildens glød
da hun lå i mine armer!

Her hvor flammenes dystre skinn,
akk, kun leker med våpnene,
Her føler mitt bryst seg ganske alene,
vemodets tårer faller.

O hjerte! La ikke trøsten forlate deg!
Ennå kaller mange slag.
Snart skal jeg falle til ro og sove godt,
min hjertens kjær, god natt!
