Trost unglücklicher Liebe
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  DUT FRE
Ihr mißvergnügten Stunden,
Wie groß ist eure Zahl!
So mehrt nur Schmerz und Wunden
Und tötet mich einmal!
Ihr aber, sanfte Triebe,
Kömmt Schlaft nur mit mir ein;
Denn jenes, was ich liebe,
Wird doch nicht meine sein.

Du liebtest mit so warmem,
So vollem Herzen mich:
Nun hält dich in den Armen
Ein Glücklichrer als ich,
Und meinen heissen Küssen,
O Schicksal, hast du sie
Wie dieser Welt entrissen!
Allein auf ewig nie!

Dort, unter Himmels Lauben,
Find'ich, Geliebte, dich:
O wonniglicher Glauben!
Du nährst und stärkest mich,
Du hauchest meinem Herzen
Neukräftigs Leben ein
Und milderst mir den Schmerzen,
Die Qual, ein Mensch zu sein.

See also the version of the poem that C. P. E. Bach set to music. The two texts share a first stanza (with one small change) but nothing more. They might be disparate selections from a much longer poem.

Troost in een ongelukkige liefde
Language: Dutch (Nederlands)  after the German (Deutsch)
O godvergeten uren,
Wat is je aantal groot!
Steeds meer moet ik verduren;
Dit wordt nog eens mijn dood!
Maar jullie, troostgedachten,
Kom met mij slapen fijn;
Want ’t meisje waar ‘k op wachtte
Zal niet de mijne zijn.

Jouw hart was vol van warme
Genegenheid voor mij;
Nu lig j’ in and’re armen,
Mij ging ’t geluk voorbij.
Weg van mijn hete kussen
Nam, noodlot, jij haar mee!
De wereld moet haar missen.
Maar niet voor eeuwig, nee!

Ginds onder ’s hemels bomen
Vind ‘k jou, geliefde, weer:
O zielestrelend dromen!
Jij voedt mijn krachten zeer.
Jij ademt nieuw vertrouwen
Mij weer in hart en brein,
Vermindert zo mijn rouwen,
De pijn een mens te zijn.
