Abschied vom Liebchen
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
Leb wohl, leb wohl, mein Lieb!
Ich seh Dich nun nicht mehr!
Doch träum' ich süß von Dir,
Daß ich noch bei Dir wär'. --

Jene Tage, die so blühend,
Ach, sie flohen wie das Glück!
Jene Küsse, die so glühend,
Bringt mir keine Macht zurück.

Leb wohl, leb wohl, mein Lieb!
Muß reisen weit von Dir.
Doch Deine Liebe geht
Durch alles Land mit mir!

Deine Liebe zeigt mir immer
Hold dein Bild, das mir so werth,
Von der Unschuld Rosenschimmer,
Von der Sehnsucht Thau verklärt.

Leb wohl, leb wohl, mein Lieb!
Dein Herz geht mit mir fort;
Daß nicht allein Du bist,
Bleibt meine Seele dort.

Stätte meiner schönsten Stunden,
Ach, wie bist Du nun so leer!
Jene Freuden sind entschwunden,
Jene Stunden sind nicht mehr!

Leb wohl, leb wohl, mein Lieb!
Gott sey mit Dir und mir!
Bis wir uns wiedersehn,
Sey's droben oder hier! --

Farewell from the beloved
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Farewell, farewell, my love!
I shall see you no more!
But I shall dream sweetly of you,
[And dream] that I am still with you. --

Those days so full of blooming,
Ah, they vanished as happiness did!
Those kisses so glowing,
No power can bring them back to me.

Farewell, farewell, my love!
I must travel far from you.
But your love walks
Beside me through every land!

Always your love beautifully shows me
Your image that is so precious to me,
Transfigured by the rosy shimmer of innocence,
By the dew of yearning.

Farewell, farewell, my love!
Your heart departs with me;
But so that you are not alone
My soul remains there with you.

Site of my most beautiful hours,
Ah, how empty you are now!
Those joys have vanished,
Those hours are no more!

Farewell, farewell, my love!
May God be with you and me!
Until we meet again,
Be it above or here! --
