Sehet, sehet, welche Liebe
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): AFR ENG
Sehet, sehet, welche Liebe
Hat der Vater uns erzeigt,
Sehet, wie er voll Erbarmen
Über uns sein Antlitz neigt!
Seht, wie er das Allerbeste
Für das Allerschlecht'ste giebt,
Seinen Sohn für unsre Sünden -
Sehet, seht, wie er uns liebt!

Sehet, sehet, welche Liebe
Unser Heiland zu uns trägt,
Wie er alles für uns leidet,
Selbst, daß man an's Kreuz ihn schlägt,
Wie er da auch noch den letzten
Tropfen Bluts für uns vergießt.
Sehet, seht, ob das nicht Liebe,
Namenlose Liebe ist!

Sehet, sehet, welche Liebe
Uns erzeigt der heil'ge Geist,
Wie er auch den ärgsten Sünder
Gern zum Leben unterweis't,
Wie er strafend, lehrend, tröstend
Immer zu den Menschen spricht!
O wer priese solche große,
Dreifach große Liebe nicht!

See the love shown by our Father
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
See the love shown by our Father,
by his rich and boundless grace,
see, how he, with boundless mercy,
bows o’er us his kindly face!
See, the very best he gives us
for the very worst we give:
His own son for our transgressions –
see, how by his love we live.

See the love shown by our Saviour
– love that lives so death should die –
how he suffers for us sinners,
He, whom we would crucify!
See, how on the cross the Saviour
sheds the blood that marks his reign.
See: Is this not love enormous?
Nameless love that bears his name!

See the love shown by the Spirit
as he chastens us for sin,
how he teaches truth to sinners,
how we are consoled by him.
From the heavens he descended
as the body of a dove.
Who would fail to glorify
this glorious Trinity of Love!
