And so I wish her a good night, Her with whom I was alone. She spoke a friendly word to me: We two must now part! I do not go far, God knows the time, To meet again brings joy! At night when I was with her Her face was full of blushes, She looked amicably upon the lad, Said, may God go with you! My ignominy and jest, Parting causes pain! I have come to realize that! The maiden stood at the shutter, Began to weep miserably! May God bless you, my rider-lad, Do not leave me alone for long! Come back soon, My place of refuge! Release me from burdensome dreams! The rider rode over the heath, He tossed his horse about; Now may God bless you, my handsome lover, And do not go back on your word. If God grants good fortune, I shall never take it back! You are the crown of my heart. And he who sang us this little song, He sang it very well. The singing was done by a rider-lad, He is suffused with love. He sings us this and likely more yet, As it rang out within his heart.
