Die Sehnsucht glüht in ihrem nächtigen Blick 
Nach jener Heimat, die sie niemals finden. 
So treibt sie ein unseliges Geschick, 
Das nur Melancholie mag ganz ergründen.

Die Wolken wandeln ihren Wegen vor, 
Ein Vogelzug mag manchmal sie geleiten, 
Bis er am Abend ihre Spur verlor, 
Und manchmal trägt der Wind ein Aveläuten

In ihres Lagers Sterneneinsamkeit, 
Daß sehnsuchtsvoller ihre Lieder schwellen 
Und schluchzen von ererbtem Fluch und Leid, 
Das keiner Hoffnung Sterne sanft erhellen.

Dans leur regard nocturne brille la nostalgie
De cette patrie qu'ils ne trouvent jamais.
Ainsi les pousse un destin funeste
Que seule la mélancolie peut révéler.

Les nuages cheminent devant leur chemin
Un vol d'oiseaux peut parfois les accompagner
Jusqu'à ce qu'il perde leur trace,
Et parfois le vent porte les cloches d'un Ave.

Dans la solitude étoilée de leur camp
Leurs chants pleins de nostalgie enflent
Et sanglotent imprécations et souffrances ataviques
Qu'aucune étoile d'espoir n'éclaire doucement.
