"Ich wollt', ich wär' ein Held und ritt
Als Oberst in den Krieg,
Und tausend Helden reiten mit,
Das giebt den schönsten Sieg.

"Ich wollt', ich wär' ein Kapitän,
Und mein das weite Meer,
Da flieg' ich vor des Sturmes Wehn,
Und fürcht' mich nicht, daher.

"Ich wollt', ich wär' ein Jägersmann,
In Feld und Wald zu Haus,
Den stärksten Löwen fall' ich an.
Und mach' ihm den Garaus.

"Ich wollt', ich wär', ich wollt', ich wär' -
Das Größte ist mir recht!"
Und tapfer zückt die Schneiderscher'
Der Meister zum Gefecht.

Und ritsch und ratsch ins feinste Tuch,
Stürmt er Verhau, Verhack!
Viktoria! - O Schneiderfluch:
Verschnitten ist der Frack.

Et du coup je ne craindrais rien.

Je voudrais être un chasseur,
Dans le champ et la forêt de chez moi,
J'attaquerais le lion le plus fort
Et lui tordrais le cou.

Je voudrais être, je voudrais être ‑
Le plus grand, pourquoi pas !
Et hardiment le maître tire  les ciseaux
Pour le branle bas de combat.

Et taille et pique le tissu le plus fin,
Il attaque, branle-bas et méli-mélo !
Victoire ! Ô malédiction du tailleur :
L'habit est coupé de travers.
