Note: The poem was first published 1822 in Rückert's Oestliche Rosen where all the poems have no titles. In subsequent editions (Erlangen, 1837: Gesammelte Gedichte, Frankfurt a. M., 1868: Gesammelte Poetische Werke) this poem got the title Vom künftigen Alter and is printed in a different format: each two lines of the original poem have been combined into one single line, and the separation into stanzas has been abandoned.

El gebre ja cobert la teulada de la meva casa però jo he restat a l’escalfor de la meva estança. L’hivern ha cobert de blanc el coronell del meu cap però la sang, vermella, corre per les estances del cor. A les meves galtes, les flors de joventut, les roses, han marxat totes, una darrera l’altra. On han anat? Al fons del meu cor. Allà floreixen com volen, tal com ho feien abans. S’han assecat tots els rius de joia del món? Al meu pit encara corre un rierol tranquil. Han emmudit tots els rossinyols dels camps? Aquí amb mi, a la calma, un encara resta eixorivit. Ell canta: Senyor de la casa! Tanca la porta perquè la fredor del món no entri a les estances. Deixa a fora l’aspre hàlit de la realitat, i dóna només aixopluc a la flaire dels somnis.
